Matt MacLaurin is a creative technology leader with over 30 years of experience at the intersection of design, engineering, and storytelling. He’s held leadership and design roles at some of the world’s most innovative companies, including Microsoft, Sony, Apple, Facebook, Nest, and eBay—building user-facing experiences for billions of users across diverse platforms.
He began his career at Apple on MacOS and the groundbreaking Newton PDA, then founded MediaX Santa Cruz, a pioneering digital design agency developing Film UI, CD, social, and embedded experiences for clients like Apple, Capitol Records, New Line, N’Sync, Toshiba, and EMI.
At Microsoft, Matt built teams and products across MS Research, Windows, Xbox, and Azure. His work in visual programming for games (“Kodu”) has been cited across industry and academia as a landmark in computational thinking.
As VP of Design at PlayStation, he led global design teams to create the PlayStation 5 ecosystem, delivering the fastest-shipping consumer hardware in history and a groundbreaking UI architecture.
Most recently, Matt has been developing new game design tools that leverage AI to simplify the complexity of open world game development. He holds over 70 patents and thrives where creative teams push the boundaries of what technology can do.
